American Pie is a teen comedy film series. The films have become a worldwide pop culture and gained a cult following due to the nature of their jokes and their absurd scenes. The film revolves around five best friends and their journey in life, often finding themselves in sticky situations due to their sexual behaviors.
‘The American Pie’ series consists of four ‘American Pie’ theatrical movies and five spin-offs that went straight to DVD. The spin-offs are titled ‘American Pie Presents.’ Note that the spin-offs are separate entities from the main four movies within the same American Pie universe but are not connected storywise.

Are all ‘American Pie’ movies connected? What’s the best way to watch them?
All ‘American Pie’ movies are connected, and while the ‘American Pie’ presents movies are part of the same continuity, they feature different characters and are generally not connected to the main series. A bunch of movies within the American Pie series came out, introducing mostly new characters. Despite the raunchy humor being a constant, what ties the American Pie Presents films together are the appearances of Jim’s Dad and the Stifler family members.
Alongside Jim’s Dad, the only characters making a comeback are Matt Stifler, who’s the main focus of the initial spin-off (although played by a different actor), and Chuck Sherman, the guidance counselor at East Great Falls High School in the first spin-off. If you’re interested in watching only the main franchise, in that case, you’re best bet is to go with the release date order. The chronology of ‘American Pie’ movies i quite simple, the first 3 movies deal with the original cast, and then the spinoffs take over, focusing on different characters within the Stiffler clan. Then, in 2012 in ‘Reunion’ we’re dealing with the original story once again.

1. ‘American Pie‘(1998)
Five East Great Falls High students (Jim, Kevin, Oz, Finch, and Stifler) make a pact to lose their virginity before graduation. This is except for Stifler, as he has already lost his. Kevin is in an argument with his girlfriend as she believes that he only wants her for sex.
2. ‘American Pie 2‘ (2001)
After their first college year, the friends gather for a summer beach house party where Oz and Heather reconnect after a hiccup in their long-distance relationship. Jim pretends to be with Michelle to avoid an awkward situation with Nadia, leading to genuine feelings between him and Michelle. Meanwhile, Finch explores Tantra but finds unexpected connections with Amber and Danielle, and Kevin grapples with lingering feelings for Vicky.
3. ‘American Wedding‘ (2003)
Jim prepares to marry Michelle but excludes Stifler from the wedding to impress Michelle’s parents. Stifler, seeking inclusion, offers to teach Jim to dance and organizes a secret bachelor party. Chaos ensues when Michelle’s parents unexpectedly visit, leading to awkward encounters and a surprising twist involving Stifler and Jim’s grandmother, but ultimately, Jim and Michelle tie the knot amidst the comedic chaos.
4. ‘American Pie Presents: Band Camp‘ (2005)
Matt Stifler (younger brother of Steve Stifler) is eager to follow in his brother’s footsteps of making pornographic films. However, he pulls a prank on the school band that goes too far, and it gets him sent to a band camp for punishment. Reluctant at first, Matt changes his mind when he gets curious about the sexual behaviors of band geeks. At the camp, he conspires with his roommate to film other band members using hidden cameras.
5. ‘American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile‘ (2006)
Erik Stifler (Steve and Matt’s cousin) has trouble living up to the Stifler name as he is perhaps the only Stifler about to graduate from high school as a virgin. Erik’s cousin Dwight invites him and his friends (Cooze and Ryan) to his university for an event called “The Naked Mile.” Tracy is Erik’s girlfriend, who is not ready for sex but loves him to the point that she grants Erik a sex pass, hoping he can fulfill his lustful desires.
6. ‘American Pie Presents: Beta House‘ (2007)
Erik and Cooze, college freshmen at the University of Michigan, join Beta House to counter their rivals, Geek House, who are trying to shut them down. While Erik goes on a date with Ashley after breaking up with Tracy, Cooze falls for Denise, Ashley’s roommate. The fraternity faces bizarre challenges in the “Greek Olympiad” against Geek House, utilizing Edgar’s sheep fetish to secure victory, leading to a celebratory party where both Erik and Cooze take their relationships with Ashley and Denise to the next level.
7. ‘American Pie Presents: The Book of Love‘ (2009)
Set eleven years after the events of American Pie, East Great Falls High students, Rob, Nathan, and Lube are virgins. At the school library, Rob discovers “the Bible,” a sex manual compiled by students over forty years that is damaged by water.
Testing a tip from the manual, Rob approaches cheerleader Ashely in a lingerie store and compliments him. She flashes him his breasts and shoves some panties into his pants, instructing him to walk out with them. Rob is then caught and forced to pay for the panties with his mother’s credit card. Taking a tip from the manual, the boys travel to a Canadian brothel, where they encounter an elderly prostitute who dies while performing oral sex on Rob.
8. ‘American Reunion‘ (2012)
Thirteen years after high school, Jim and his friends gather for a reunion, leading to various encounters and conflicts. Jim faces a seductive neighbor, Kara, while Stifler’s immature antics create tension, ultimately prompting a rift and the end of the party. Despite the ups and downs, the friends come together to support Finch, expressing their disdain for Stifler’s behavior, leading to a bittersweet conclusion to the reunion.
9. ‘American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rules’ (2020)
In their senior year, friends Annie, Kayla, Michelle, and Stephanie make a pact to pursue their desires. The arrival of a new guy, Grant, ignites romantic competition and conflicts between Michelle and Stephanie. Meanwhile, Annie develops a connection with Grant, and Stephanie finds unexpected feelings for Grant’s friend Emmet as the friends navigate their complex relationships.

Will there be more ‘American Pie’ movies?
In August 2018, Tara Reid mentioned having discussions with the directors, who assured her that the fifth film was in the works and that filming might start soon. In March 2021, Reid provided more details, confirming that the script had been written and describing it as “one of the best” in the series. However, a few months later, Jason Biggs refuted claims about script progress, acknowledging ongoing discussions for a sequel but acknowledging various challenges in the process. So as of now, the fifth movie is “in the works” but not much is known about it.
